Make sense of the situation
The planned case unfolds in stages. Learners identify the key findings, connect them with background knowledge and develop a reasoned interpretation.
Education package plan
From case exercises to reasoned clinical decisions
We are designing an education package delivered through apps and a web service for students in the final years of medical school and early-career doctors. In practical learning, users apply knowledge to clinical situations and receive feedback on their choices.
Learning structure
The planned case unfolds in stages. Learners identify the key findings, connect them with background knowledge and develop a reasoned interpretation.
Interactive tasks encourage learners to weigh alternatives and consider whether they have enough information. Practice focuses on clinical reasoning and explaining decisions.
The planned feedback explains the reasoning behind a solution and, when needed, guides learners back to content that illustrates the underlying mechanisms.
Short exercises and reflective questions help learners identify what they understand and what they should revisit.
Apps and web service
The education package is being designed for computers, tablets and phones. Extended case studies and short review sections offer formats for different situations.
Illustrative explanations, case-based tasks and feedback are planned components of the learning environment. Usability and educational value will be assessed through prototype testing with users.
Knowledge at different levels
Each topic's scientific knowledge base is structured both as a medical learning pathway and as an executive summary for other healthcare professionals. The summary is designed around their work and learning needs.
A plain-language overview can in turn become content for public-facing apps. The level of detail and presentation are adapted to each audience's purpose.
The education app is in preparation. The published topic briefings are content examples, with learning questions that illustrate the approach.
